Job Purpose
We are looking for a results-driven Finance Manager to lead financial planning, control, and turnaround strategy. This role goes beyond accounting — it is central to financial sustainability, operational efficiency, and business growth. Reporting directly to the Directors and working closely with the senior and junior accountants, this individual will be accountable for streamlining cash flow, controlling costs, refining reporting, and identifying new financial opportunities to return the business to profitability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Strategy & Performance
- Design and execute a short- and long-term financial turnaround strategy.
- Identify inefficiencies, reduce overheads, and restructure where necessary to protect margins.
- Analyze monthly performance and propose course corrections to ensure positive cash flow.
2. Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning
- Lead the annual budgeting process and implement rolling forecasts.
- Monitor department-level budgets, enforce cost discipline, and analyze variances.
- Collaborate with department heads to align budgets with business strategy.
3. Business Growth & Advisory
- Use financial data to recommend new income streams, partnerships, pricing strategies, or investments.
- Advise the Directors on financial risks, funding needs, and growth opportunities.
- Actively support digital transformation and performance-led decision-making.
4. Cash Flow Management & Cost Optimization
- Monitor daily cash flow and maintain optimal liquidity at all times.
- Implement payment cycles, credit control policies, and supplier renegotiations.
- Introduce new tools or systems to automate expense tracking and reduce leakages.
5. Team Leadership & Oversight
- Supervise the Chief Accountant and Junior Accountant.
- Set monthly targets, guide reconciliations, and oversee internal controls.
- Champion continuous improvement and team development within the finance unit.
6. Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure statutory compliance (KRA, NSSF, NHIF, etc.) and timely submission of returns.
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, board reports, and financial statements.
- Liaise with auditors, regulators, and tax advisors when necessary.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Achieve positive monthly cash flow within 3 months
- Reduce company operating expenses by a minimum of 20% within 6 months
- Reduce aged receivables by 40% within 4 months
- Improve monthly financial reporting turnaround to under 7 days
- Implement automated reporting systems (ERP or dashboards) within 6 months
- Generate monthly financial strategy insights to support sales and operations
Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- CPA-K or ACCA qualification is mandatory
- Additional training in strategy, turnaround, or business development is an asset
Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years in financial management or leadership roles
- Proven experience in turnaround or high-pressure finance environments
- Experience managing finance teams and working directly with senior leadership
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in SAGE or similar ERP platforms
- Advanced Excel skills and financial modeling capabilities
- Strong command of budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and scenario planning
